Case of missing woman Danielle Nyland worries family
RCMP say Danielle Nyland last seen June 8 near Holbein, Sask., west of Prince Albert
RCMP are still looking for Danielle Nyland, who was reported missing June 10 and was last seen near Holbein, Sask., on June 8.
Investigators are also hoping to identify the owner of a white pickup truck that may be related to the woman's disappearance.
Another lead prompted RCMP to issue a statement Monday indicating they were hoping to contact a Prince Albert man, Raymond Knife, who may have useful information on the case. On Tuesday night RCMP said they had found Knife and that investigators were still working on Nyland's disappearance.
Nyland's 23rd birthday was on June 15 and RCMP have noted she has not been in contact with family and friends There has been no banking or social media activity since she was reported missing.
Nyland was last seen near Holbein, a small community about 30 kilometres west of Prince Albert, around 7:30 a.m. CST June 8.
"It's a big puzzle for the RCMP as well as the family," Lynn Regnier, the woman's uncle, said.
Concerned family members have been searching the area where Nyland was last seen, even though — according to Regnier — RCMP have advised against that.
"[The area has] forest and lots of muskeg and lots of sloughs and I think if a person is not used to being in those kind of areas you could get lost," Regnier said. "And probably the other thing is if they find evidence, that's their [the RCMP] jobs, it's not ours, sort of thing. So I can understand what the RCMP are saying but at the same point, some people want to search."
There have also been coordinated search efforts, involving police and civilians, in areas around Shellbrook.
The RCMP investigation has lead them to believe Nyland was at a social gathering in the east Flats area of Prince Albert in the early hours of June 8.
She was next seen around 7:30 a.m. that same morning in a rural area west of Prince Albert.
RCMP said her cell phone was located by home owners at the end of the driveway at their residence approximately 9.5 kilometres east of Shellbrook (near Holbein) and reported to police.
Nyland is described as Métis, five feet six inches tall, and weighs 180 pounds. She has long brown hair and brown eyes.
