RCMP are investigating an arson in the Northern Village of Pinehouse, after an excavator was shot at and set on fire over the weekend.

The heavy equipment was parked at the community's landfill near Highway 914, police said in a news release. Sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning, one or more suspects allegedly shot at the machine before lighting it on fire.

The fire did not spread beyond the excavator, but the machine was heavily damaged.

RCMP received the report on the morning of June 8. Investigators are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity near the landfill late on June 7 or early on June 8 to come forward.

Tips can be reported to Pinehouse RCMP by calling 310-RCMP. Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
