The City of Regina is poised to proceed with another pilot project for a new style of rental housing: laneway suites that use the second floor of a two-story garage.

The innovative suites are on the agenda for the March 24th meeting of council.

According to a report for council, officials are recommending a pilot project for Harbour Landing. A developer has submitted designs that have won favour with city administration. The designs are similar to those in another pilot project for secondary suites in another new subdivision, the Greens on Gardiner, that was given council's OK in June.

The developer has suggested a couple of designs, created by Robinson Residential for Homes by Deveraux.

The report says the plan would see 20 lots with above garage suites including:

- 14 one-bedroom suites of 700 s/f each.
- 6 one-bedroom suites of 540 s/f each.

Council has asked for pilot projects so that the new rental suites can be evaluated. Council could then draft a general development plan to allow for secondary suites more broadly.
