He went from avoiding procedure to learning it.

This week On the Ledge speaks with Gene Makowsky, Saskatchewan's minister of parks, culture and sport.

The former Saskatchewan Roughriders offensive lineman and CFL Hall of Famer was first elected as a MLA in 2011.

The member for Regina Gardiner Park was named to a cabinet position last summer.

Host Adam Hunter spoke with Makowsky about his move from football to something much more dangerous - politics.

Makowsky said it started with an introduction to former premier Brad Wall.

"I gave him some free advice every time I talked to him. It was worth the price charged. He started having some conversations about running, I did and the timing worked out," Makowsky said.

Makowsky also talked about his cameo appearance on the hit TV series Corner Gas.

"A few years ago I got a royalty cheque and it was for like $0.96. I tell people that and they say I was probably overpaid."
