A person is in the hospital after a Saskatoon garbage truck driver ran over their legs in the Riversdale neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

The person had been lying near a power box on the side of an alleyway when the driver made a left turn near Avenue I and 22nd Street around 10 a.m. CST, according to a Wednesday news release from the city.

"The alley in this location is configured with a 90-degree sharp turn to the left," a spokesperson for the City of Saskatoon said in the release.

The person was not visible to the operator, the city said.

The garbage truck's driver seat and steering wheel are located on the right-hand side of the vehicle to allow for a better view when collecting and tipping bins, according to the release.

Water and waste operations managers attended the scene.

Police are investigating and no charges have been laid.

The city has not yet provided any other information, including the extent of the person's injuries.
