Petition seeks action on massage parlours fronting for sex trade
A Regina woman has started an online petition seeking action on massage parlours which are engaged in the sex trade.
Anna Kabat does not have a problem with clinics that provide massage services from registered therapists.
Her concern is with businesses that, in her view, are operating as fronts for prostitution and human trafficking.
"My biggest concern is for the women in these places," Kabat said. "I think that they are captives, it's modern day slavery."
She added the location of some of the businesses is also a concern.
"A lot of them are close to homes and schools and libraries — around children, around youth," she said.
As of Thursday night, Kabat's change.org petition had attracted about 350 signatures.
Kabat addressed the petition to the mayor of Regina.
She hopes city officials will take action to close down such places.
