Endurance snow kite race features 10 laps for a total of 50 kilometres
A special kind of race harnessed Saskatchewan’s famous wind on Sunday.
The Red Bull Kite Farm took place north of Regina near Highway 11 after the event was postponed on Saturday due to snowy conditions.
Competitors attached skis or snowboards to their feet and used large kites to race around 10 laps for 50 kilometres.
Simon Gill of Valley Field, Que. took first place in the ski category.
Gill will move on to represent North America at the world championship in Norway. He said that while he is looking forward to Norway’s mountainous conditions, he also enjoyed Saskatchewan’s flat terrain.
“It’s the biggest race I have done and I really like it,” Gill said. “It was awesome.”
