Regina was Canada's homicide capital last year — at least on a per capita basis.

According to a Statistics Canada report released Monday, the Regina's census metropolitan area (which includes the city and some surrounding communities, such as White City) recorded nine homicides in 2013.

That gives it a homicide rate of 3.84 per 100,000 people, the highest of the 34 communities in the StatsCan report.

Winnipeg was No. 2, with 26 homicides and a rate of 3.82 per 100,000.

Saskatoon's census metropolitan area was No. 10, with 5 homicides and a rate of 1.67 per 100,000.

Homicide includes both murder and manslaughter.

The report also looked homicides on a provincial basis. Saskatchewan was No. 2 per capita after Manitoba.
