Regina refinery belch leaves gunk on cars

An auto cleaning shop near the Co-op refinery in Regina says it has seen a boom in business after vehicles in the area were covered in oil droplets last month. 

Refinery officials say a valve failure caused oil to spray into the air.

"We're looking at about 10 to 15 people a day," said Cale Michell, who works at Valet Auto Spa. "We're booking about a week in advance to about a week and a half."

The refinery was hit by a fire and explosion on Christmas Eve, but it's not believed there's any connection between the two incidents.

It costs between $50 and $300 to clean a vehicle, depending on how much oil is on it.
The refinery will foot the bill for anyone affected.
