Saskatchewan man killed in B.C. paraglider crash

A Saskatchewan man has died following a paraglider crash in  B.C. on Thursday.

The victim is Barry Kleiter, 43, of Humboldt, who died when his powered paraglider crashed near Enderby.

Kleiter had been taking lessons and was flying solo with an instructor on the ground in radio contact with him when something went wrong, the B.C. Coroners Service said in a news release.

He spiralled down from a height of about 300 metres into a field.

He had been taking a course in operation of the machine for approximately one week.

It's not known what caused the crash. The Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate.

Powered paragliders are classified by Transport Canada as a type of ultra-light aircraft.

Kleiter's family has been notified of his death. They're asking the media to respect their privacy.
