Saskatchewan's green power billing program gone for now
Some SaskPower customers have noticed something missing on their bills — the Crown utility's Green Power program is gone.
Some SaskPower customers have noticed something missing on their bills — the Crown utility's Green Power program is gone.
It started in 2002, as a way to let customers pay a little more to buy wind power.
However, Ottawa cut subsidies for wind last year and the premium billing service is now on hold.
SaskPower says Green Power is not necessarily dead, though.
It says the program is under review as the company re-evaluates environmental strategies.
Meanwhile, the use of wind as a power source continues. SaskPower gets wind power from turbines in the Gull Lake, Moosomin and other areas.
