Saskatoon police issue warning after seven suspected drug overdoses Saturday
One suspected overdose took place at the Saskatoon police detention centre
Saskatoon police are issuing a public safety advisory after seven people suffered from apparent drug overdoses, including one at the police detention centre.
Six of the suspected overdoses happened this morning after police, the Saskatoon Fire Department and Medavie Health Services went to three different locations and found men and women experiencing "effects of apparent illicit drug overdoses," according to a news release by Saskatoon police.
The other suspected overdose happened after a 23-year-old man was brought to the Saskatoon police detention unit this afternoon and showed immediate signs of medical distress.
The paramedic on duty alerted Medavie Health Services, who took the man to hospital, according to police.
The conditions of those involved are not known.
Police are continuing to investigate the matter and are reminding people that taking any drug without a doctor's prescription, or dispensed by a pharmacist, poses a serious risk of injury or death.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Saskatoon police or Crime Stoppers.
