Seattle Seahawks' Jon Ryan in Regina for charity events

Seattle Seahawks punter and Regina native Jon Ryan is in the city this week for several charity events — including a fundraiser to support local football.

An event Wednesday night for Ryan's new charity, Gear Up, took place at the Canada-Saskatchewan Sound Stage.

The event was hosted by Ryan's fiancée, comedian Sarah Colonna, and included musical acts Gord Bamford and The Trews. Ryan and some of his celebrity friends were also featured.

Prior to the event Ryan outlined the importance of the Gear Up campaign, which aims to buy equipment for young local football players.

"Properly fitting and proper equipment is so important, especially with all the concussions and head injuries that are going on in football," he said. "Start these kids off at a young age with the proper equipment is our goal."

Ryan will also be participating, Thursday, in a golf event to raise money for cancer research and treatment.
