The province is lowering the speed limit on two busy stretches of highway that have seen more than their share of accidents.
Effective today, the limit will go from 110 kilometres per hour to 90 on Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) east of Regina.
That's the section from the Pilot Butte access to just east of the Highway 48 junction.
The speed limit was also reduced to 90 on Highway 12 around Martensville.
Both corridors have a lot of commuter traffic and each has a high accident rate.
People in the Balgonie area had lobbied the government for a traffic light.
The province says it's a pilot project. If it helps reduce accidents, lower speed limits may be tried in other areas.
