Regina parents get into toddler fashion
Is your Facebook or Instagram feed filled with toddlers wearing really hip clothes?
David and Victoria Beckham are fashion royalty, but did you know their four-year-old daughter, Harper, is a style icon, too? There's even a blog dedicated to her every outfit.
Ted Samonte in Regina was always into fashion, but his interest spiked with the birth of his daugther Ava, who's now four.
'We've all gone back into our photos and you just cringe being like 'I can't believe mom put me in that sailor dress, what was she thinking?'- Nicolette Hunter
Samonte takes Hi-Res photos of Ava's coolest outfits and posts them to Facebook and Instagram. It's a creative outlet for him and he considers her clothes a reflection of his personal taste.
"I feel like the way I dress her, I kind of live vicariously through her," Samonte said. "There's a lot of stuff that I can't wear as an adult, because it'll look weird, and people will judge me."
Samonte grabs inspiration from other hip fashionable children. There are style blogs and he follows the hashtag "fashion kids."
He sometimes copies the children's style for himself.
"I mean they're really well dressed," he said.
Nicolette Hunter runs Boutique Nico — a retailer catering to young kid fashion. She says Samonte fits the mold of her classic client.
She says children are an extension of their parents, and that they represent the parent's taste. She adds that it's a desire for children to just look nice.
"Sometimes it's reliving our childhood, too. I mean we've all gone back into our photos and you just cringe being like 'I can't believe mom put me in that sailor dress, what was she thinking?'"
