White Christmas odds good in Regina, Saskatoon, weather office says

Saskatchewan residents dreaming of a white Christmas will probably see their wishes come true, Environment Canada says.

Environment Canada calculates odds for 43 communities based on records going back to 1955

It was a white Christmas (but just barely) last year in Regina and based on the historical record it looks good for this year, too. (Facebook)

Saskatchewan residents dreaming of a white Christmas will probably see their wishes come true, Environment Canada says.

The weather office has calculated the odds for 43 major centres of having at least two centimetres of snow on the ground on the morning of Dec. 25.

In Regina, which has only seen a skiff of snow so far this month, there's a 92 per cent chance that will happen.

In Saskatoon, it's a 95 per cent chance.

Environment Canada makes its prediction based on records from 1955 to 2013.

For those Saskatchewan residents hoping for a scene out of Currier and Ives, a printmaking firm famed for their winter scenes, the odds could be worse and they could be better.

The prediction for Yellowknife is 100 per cent chance of a white Christmas. In Vancouver, there's only a 10 per cent chance of snow cover on Dec. 25.
