The Saskatoon Fire Department says a kitchen fire filled an apartment building with smoke Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to an apartment building on Avenue V North at about 3 a.m. CST.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke was billowing out of the third floor of the apartment.

No one was hurt. The people living in the suite were already outside when crews arrived.

The woman living in the suite said she was woken up by alarms and said the apartment was full of thick black smoke.

Investigators say the fire was started when a pot was left on a stove unattended. Damage is estimated at $80,000.
