Vince Squires was one of many pumped up men and women representing Saskatchewan. Originally from Thompson, Man., Squires now calls Moose Jaw, Sask., home.

He's competing in his second Canadian championship and he told CBC News arm wrestling isn't just a friendly game to test one's strength — it's a serious sport requiring a lot of training.

"It takes a lot of commitment to train, lots of table time, lots of gym time," Squires said.

"Lots of practicing with your team, learning the techniques, learning the set up on the table. It takes a lot."

The 2016 championships were held at the Cosmopolitan Senior Citizens Centre on 11th Street E. in Saskatoon.
