Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark says he will announce his plans for this fall's municipal election at a media event Wednesday afternoon, potentially setting the stage for mayoral battle against former Sask. Party cabinet minister Rob Norris.

Clark's office sent a note about the upcoming announcement Tuesday afternoon.

Masks are mandatory for the event, where 20 people, in addition to media, are expected to be in attendance.

Clark has kept his election plans close to his chest. He declined to confirm his intentions in late June, when Norris announced his candidacy.

Clark said he preferred to stay focused on COVID-19, and that citizens hadn't told him they wanted to see political campaigning at that point.

If Clark announces his own bid, he will be seeking a second term as Saskatoon mayor, having beat out incumbent mayor Don Atchison in the 2016 municipal contest.

Wednesday's event is scheduled for noon at the Sheraton Cavalier hotel.
