A former music teacher from the Wynyard area is going to jail for sexually assaulting three students in the 1990s.

Gerard Loehr was sentenced Friday in Yorkton provincial court to 20 months in jail.

Loehr is also facing 22 similar charges against 11 students in Ottawa. He moved there from Saskatchewan in the mid-1990s.

Loehr was convicted of the Saskatchewan charges in November. The victims were all under 14 at the time, and the assaults happened during private music lessons.

A news release from the Wynyard RCMP said a woman reported a historical sexual assault in February of last year. Since then, five other people have provided information to police involving the same person.

"At the time of the alleged incidents, Loehr was a teacher in Wynyard and Foam Lake schools in Saskatchewan," a statement from RCMP said.

"He may have substituted in other schools in the area as well. Due to the length of time that has passed since he taught in Saskatchewan, we do not have the exact details about the schools he taught in."
