Twitter reacts after government proclaims Transportation Week following cuts
Social media users poke fun at government proclamation, which came the same week as STC shutdown
The Saskatchewan government has declared all of next week Transportation Week.
This after a week where cuts to government-funded transportation dominated the news.
The final day of service for the Saskatchewan Transportation Company was on Wednesday.
Then it was revealed today that the government is changing the way it pays for school transportation in the wake of a province-wide review.
The government said it will no longer provide money to get kids in communities with fewer than 5,000 people to their local schools.
People on Twitter were quick to point out the irony.
In an act of unparallelled irony, <a href="https://twitter.com/PremierBradWall">@PremierBradWall</a> declares the week after shutting down STC to be "transportation week"

This is a typo. We meant "Saskatchewan Transportation Cuts Week". <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/skpoli?src=hash">#skpoli</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/stc?src=hash">#stc</a> <a href="https://t.co/Fp01BmOP3B">https://t.co/Fp01BmOP3B</a>

May 31st - <a href="https://twitter.com/PremierBradWall">@PremierBradWall</a> shuts down STC. June 1st - "Oh Hey! Its Transportation Week!" *eyeroll* <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/skpoli?src=hash">#skpoli</a> <a href="https://t.co/NZGLGgd9WZ">https://t.co/NZGLGgd9WZ</a>

Others were not as kind to Premier Brad Wall and the Saskatchewan Party government.
Or are you and the entire <a href="https://twitter.com/SaskParty">@SaskParty</a> that ignorant to your actions that this seemed like a great idea? <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/transportationweek?src=hash">#transportationweek</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/tonedeaf?src=hash">#tonedeaf</a>

How cruel: SK Gov declares "Transportation Week" one day after STC closure leaves citizens stranded <a href="https://t.co/h0gIWrdtgr">https://t.co/h0gIWrdtgr</a>

June 4 to 10 was declared Transportation Week in recognition of "the people working to keep Saskatchewan's economy moving," according to a government news release.
"Saskatchewan's transportation industry connects our producers and manufacturers with consumers, which is vital to the success of our economy," Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said in the news release, issued on June 1.
The government release also highlights investments to highway infrastructure.
<a href="https://twitter.com/SKGov">@SKGov</a> should rename transportation week to <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/OnlyDrivingAllowed?src=hash">#OnlyDrivingAllowed</a> Week. No mention of anyone but motorists <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/SKpoli?src=hash">#SKpoli</a> <a href="https://t.co/CabzTp0DU6">https://t.co/CabzTp0DU6</a>
