Saskatoon's chief financial officer was the highest-paid direct employee of the City of Saskatoon last year.

Earlier this week, the city released its annual public accounts, which detail the earnings of all city employees and those who work for the police, fire department and other city-funded entities.

Kerry Tarasoff topped the list for direct City of Saskatoon employees, making $282,280 in 2019.

Here's the rest of the city's Top 10. Some people's earnings include a car allowance.

  • Jeff Jorgenson, city manager: $278,095.
  • Kim Bodnarchuk, senior city solicitor: $273,152.
  • Patricia Warwick, city solicitor: $217,618.
  • Lynne Lacroix, general manager, community services: $208,285.
  • Daniel Willems, chief strategy and transformation officer: $185,000.
  • Shelley Korte, senior financial partner: $184,340.
  • Sarah Cameron, chief human resources officer: $184,185.
  • Cindy Yelland, city solicitor: $183,218.
  • Reid Corbett, director of Saskatoon Water: $180,564.

The cost of Saskatoon water bills came under attack Thursday by former Sask. Party MLA Rob Norris, as he announced he is running for Saskatoon mayor.

"I've also heard about people's water bills," Norris said in cataloguing what he termed as unacceptable cost-of-living increases in recent years. "We just have to do better."

Charlie Clark, the mayor of Saskatoon, was paid $147,655 last year.

The public accounts also reveal who topped the highest-paid lists in other Saskatoon organizations and departments.

Saskatoon Police Service

The highest-ranking member of the city's police force, Chief Troy Cooper, didn't actually top this list.

Cooper's deputy police chief, Mark Chatterbok, earned $247,915 last year, compared to Cooper's earnings of $244,833.

Saskatoon Fire Department

Fire Chief Morgan Hackl did top his department's list, taking in $199,500.

Saskatoon Public Library

The library list was easily topped by director of libraries and CEO of Saskatoon Public Library Carol Cooley, who has led planning for a new downtown public library, and made $194,539 last year.

The next closest SPL salaries were paid to director of corporate services and facilities Laura Warner and Beth Cote, director of public service. Each made $136,229.

SaskTel Centre and TCU Place

Sasktel Centre CEO Will Lofdahl made $200,809 in 2019, while his counterpart at TCU Place, Bob Korol, made $184,641.

Remai Modern

The highest-paid employee at Saskatoon's modern art museum was its former chief curator, Sandra Guimarães, who earned $178,147 in 2019. Guimarães left the organization in the first month of the year, according to a museum spokesperson.

The museum's previous CEO and executive director, Gregory Burke, earned $105,525 last year. Burke announced his resignation in December 2018. His last day was slated for March 15, 2019, according to the announcement about his leaving.

"The payments to Gregory Burke and Sandra Guimarães were pursuant to their employment with Remai Modern," the spokesperson said. "The specific details of employee payments are personal information and the museum is not in a position to provide further comment."
