A major step toward the completion of the Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan is set to begin in September as Graham Construction and Engineering wins $215 million contract for the main building.

"Today is an exciting day for our province and for this very special project," said Minister of Health Dustin Duncan.

This phase of the construction represents a majority of the estimated total cost of the Saskatoon hospital which is now pegged at $285.2 million. Most of that money comes from the provincial government, with the balance coming from the health region and the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.

"The Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan is eager to see construction continue on the new Children's Hospital of Saskatchewan," said the foundation's Greg Yuel. "This Foundation is committed to fulfilling its mandate to ensure that this new facility has everything it needs to ensure quality care and services for our youngest citizens."

The opening of the hospital is projected for later in 2019.
