A Saskatoon woman who disappeared in a plane crash Thursday is being remembered in the Bridge City.

Marwa Hamdy was on the EgyptAir flight en route from Paris to Cairo when the jet swerved wildly in the sky before disappearing from radar early Thursday, crashing in the Mediterranean.

Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry confirmed on Friday that the Egyptian military had found human remains believed to belong to people on board Flight 804.

Hamdy's husband told CBC News that she had been born in Saskatoon and lived there for several years while her parents studied. She moved back to Cairo with them at the age of seven.

The IBM project manager and mother of three had been returning from visiting family in Paris when the EgyptAir flight went down.

A private service will be held for Hamdy in Saskatoon this weekend at Riverside Estates.

  • An earlier version of this story referred to a family friend saying Marwa Hamdy had left Saskatoon about 10 years ago when she got married. In fact, her husband says she was born in Saskatoon but left the city with her parents at the age of 7.
