Saskatoon police set up safe zone for people to exchange goods bought online
SPS is providing the location only and will not supervise transactions
Police forces across Canada have set up so-called 'safe zones' for the physical meet-ups that follow online transactions.
Now the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) is following suit.
A "Buy and Sell Exchange Zone" is now in effect at SPS's visitor parking lot on the west side of the headquarters on 25th Street E.
People who have arranged to buy items through online portals like Craigslist, Kijiji and Facebook Marketplace can finalize their sales there.
Police recommend bringing a friend and only paying once you have met the seller and actually seen the merchandise.
They also suggest buyers use cash to prevent any kind of cheque or online money transfer fraud.
SPS is also recommending potential buyers use the online police information centre to check if an item has been reported stolen.
