A hip-hop show this weekend in Saskatoon headlined by rapper Joey Stylez ended in violence, bear mace and criminal charges.

Stylez headlined the show, but sources tell CBC that the trouble started with rapper Skye Stoney.

Stoney is a Los Angeles-based rapper who is originally from Saskatoon. He's well-known to police because of a shooting at the Patricia Hotel in 2008.

Stoney pleaded guilty to shooting another man in the leg and was sentenced to 22 months in jail and handed a lifetime ban on owning firearms.

Stoney is said to have "thrown down his rag," leaving the gang lifestyle to pursue a career in music.

Sources say that members of the Terror Squad street gang recognized Stoney on stage Friday. They left the club and returned wearing their colours. And that's when the mayhem started in the small, basement club.

Police say that sometime after 1 a.m. CST, someone sprayed bear mace on the stage, and then another man pulled out a sawed-off .22 calibre Ruger rifle.

This man was wrestled to ground by staff and held for police. Officers charged a 19-year-old man with multiple firearm-related offenses. He appeared in court this morning and will back Tuesday for a bail hearing.

A 33-year-old man was found outside the business in medical distress and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition.

The is no information about what led to the attack, though earlier police said they do not believe it was a random act.

Stoney said on facebook that that, "I'm absolutely confused to tell ya the truth, not feeling life right now."

Stoney has since been dropped from the Stylez tour.
