Saskatchewan driver crashes into pole, knocks out power in 4 towns

RCMP members in southwest Saskatchewan found a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole, knocking down other power lines across the road and cutting the power to communities in the area.

After spotting an electric surge along Highway 32 near Leader, Sask., RCMP members patrolling the area soon found a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole, effectively knocking down other power lines across the road and cutting the power to communities in the area.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. CST on Friday night. RCMP officers saw what they described as an electrical arc near Portreeve, Sask., approximately 113 kilometres northwest of Swift Current.  

The lone male driver had apparently "suffered a medical condition," according to an RCMP news release.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the release stated.

The communities of Portreeve, Lemsford, Sceptre, and Prelate were without power throughout the night. SaskPower had the electricity to the areas restored by 5 a.m. on Saturday morning.
