Saskatchewan Rush choose Rowdy as name for new mascot
Online vote had narrowed choice to two names and team opts for Rowdy

After announcing fans would be voting on the Saskatchewan Rush mascot's new name, management made the decision to choose Rowdy over the other top choice, Horny.
The National Lacrosse League team, based in Saskatoon, had announced last month fans would be voting in-person for the mascot's name after an online poll narrowed the choices to two.
However, management made the decision instead, communications manager Cody Janzen said in an email.
The new mascot, a grey bison, is part of a full rebrand for the team, including a new logo and jerseys.
"When the team moved from Edmonton to Saskatoon, they just took the old logos … but now it's, OK, you've got something unique, you've got something individual, and you've got something that really tells the story about Saskatchewan lacrosse, the Indigenous roots of the game and, really, just how can we honour the area we get to play on," Janzen told CBC when the team announced the rebrand earlier this fall.
The initial online poll for the mascot's new name had seven candidates: Bash, Buff, Horny, Franklin, Thunderhoof, Rowdy and Charger.
The team is back on the floor Saturday in Moose Jaw for a preseason game against the Calgary Roughnecks. Their regular season home opener is Dec. 9 at SaskTel Centre, versus the Rochester Knighthawks.
