A number of City of Saskatoon public facilities–including leisure centres, outdoor pools and arenas–will now have free WiFi connectivity.

"Not only Saskatoon, but everywhere, want connectivity all the time," said Mayor Don Atchison during the announcement. "They don't want to be without, and so what this is doing today is really helping out bringing everyone closer together."

The new WiFi service is a partnership between the city and Shaw Communications.

"It's for all citizens of Saskatoon, whether they're a Shaw customer or non-customer," said Greg Pultz, vice president of operations with Shaw Communications.

Complimentary WiFi will be available at the following locations:

  • Saskatoon City Hall, 222 - 3rd Avenue North
  • Cosmo Civic Centre, 3130 Laurier Drive
  • Lakewood Civic Centre, 1635 McKercher Drive
  • Lawson Civic Centre, 225 Primrose Drive
  • Lathey Pool, 815 Taylor Street
  • Mayfair Pool, 1025 Ave F North
  • ACT Arena, 107 - 105th Street
  • Gordie Howe Kinsmen Arena, 1405 Avenue P South
  • Holiday Park, 1630 Avenue
  • Downtown Transit Terminal

27 more facilities will have free WiFi in the future.

"It can take a fair amount of time to build out the network and to get it strung up in all of the structures and that kind of thing, but typically we're in and out in a very short period of time," Pultz said.
