Saskatoon Police constable fired after two on-duty assault allegations in five months
Jarett Gelowitz charged with common assault and aggravated assault
A Saskatoon police constable facing two allegations of on-duty assault in a five-month span has been fired.
Chief Troy Cooper held a news conference Monday to say that Constable Jarett Gelowitz is "unsuitable for police service," effective Aug. 24.
The assault allegations both stem from when Gelowitz was on duty in 2017.
The first happened Jan. 22, 2017. A man was arrested after a foot chase and received minor injuries. Gelowitz was charged with common assault after a complaint and investigation.
The aggravated assault charge came after incident April 15 that same year.
In a news release, Police said Gelowitz was involved in an arrest where a suspect sustained serious injuries. It followed a stolen vehicle chase where officers stopped the suspects using a tire deflation device.
The driver's injuries were initially believed to be minor, but they proved to serious. After an investigation, Gelowitz was charged with aggravated assault.
He's scheduled to appear in court Sept. 13.
