The new Liberal government has announced that the Saskatoon Veterans Affairs office will reopen in November.

"I am extremely proud to be reopening doors that were previously closed to veterans and their families here in Saskatoon," said Kent Hehr, minister of Veterans Affairs.

Back in 2014, the Veterans Affairs office in Saskatoon, along with seven other offices across the country, closed down. It was an unpopular decision in Saskatoon and created a political backlash.

The Conservative government said they were underused.

"They have selflessly answered the call to serve our country, and now we are answering their call by enhancing financial benefits, restoring and expanding access to critical services, expanding service in British Columbia and the territories, and hiring more frontline staff. This was part of our commitment to Canadians, and we stand by this promise."

The new office in Saskatoon will be on the 5th floor of the federal building downtown.

The office will employ seven people and serve about 2,900 veterans.
