The YMCA of Saskatoon is making sure that new year celebrations are not just for late-night revellers.

The organization is helping families ring in 2017 with a New Year's Eve party and a free open house on Jan. 1.

A family new year's party is being held at the YMCA from 3 to 6 p.m. CST on Dec. 31.

The free party includes games in the gym, crafts and a bouncy castle from 4 to 6 p.m. There will also be a dance party with a pinata smash, balloon drop and countdown from 4 to 6 p.m.

No drop-in fee will be charged from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on New Year's Day, and the pool will be open for family swimming and lane swimming all day except between 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.

The gym, basketball equipment, floor hockey, pickleball and badminton facilities will also be available.

For those planning to start the new year with a health kick, visitors can also use the weight room, cardio machines, cycling studio and functional fitness area. The squash and racquetball courts will also be free to use.
