CBC readers impressed with Rick Nelson, the bear-knuckle boxer
Readers comment on Nelson's toughness, and the unbelievable Canadian-ness of his story
On Tuesday, CBC published a story on Rick Nelson, the 61-year old Sudbury man who came face-to-face with a black bear.Â
Meeting a black bear in the Sudbury area isn't uncommon, but Nelson's strategy was: he socked the bear in the nose.
Nelson's recounting of the fight turned out to be one of CBC's most popular stories that week.
The reaction we've been getting from readers has been entertaining, so we've compiled a list of tweets and comments that have been making the digital rounds.
Also interesting was Nelson's answer to the question as to why he didn't simply run away from the bear?
In a facebook post Nelson wrote -
"I had my wife's favourite rescue dog with me, tied to a tree. That's why I stayed and we were trapped with a cliff right at our back so lets see. Take my wife's favourite dog home ripped to shreds in a blanket and face her or stand and face the bear. Hmmmmm bring it on Bear."
