Thanks to a composite sketch, a man whose body was found in Junction Creek a year ago has finally been identified, as those of 44-year-old Owen Paul Ahpay, Greater Sudbury Police say.

Police received the report of human remains in Junction Creek in the area of McLeod Street at Regent Street on May 2, 2015 — but at the time, they couldn't figure out who he was.

Police made several public appeals for information, and in Aug. 2015, released a sketch that they hoped might lead to a tip.

On Tuesday of this week — almost a year to the day after the body was discovered — investigators got what they were looking for: word that the composite drawing on social media caught the attention of someone.
