CBC Sudbury on the move
CBC Sudbury is changing its digs to a new location in the city.
Management told employees Friday the station is relocating to a new, store-front location on Elm Street, beside the TD Bank.
CBC has been on Mackenzie Street since the 1970s.
The project lead for CBC says the move will save the corporation money.
"Currently, there's a lot of money that we would need to put in the current location," Marc Belanger said.
"So it would make more sense financially to move to a new location that will be a rental."
Staff are expected to move into the new location in just over a year. The move falls in line with the CBC's goal to reduce its real estate presence by half.
Back in April, CBC President Hubert Lacroix announced that, as part of the strategy going forward, CBC would divest of assets, including buildings.
Reducing the overall footprint and moving into leased space contributes to the corporation's goal of reducing its operating expenses — enabling the CBC to invest more of its budget into the production of content.
