Plans for a small housing development on Fairlane Drive in Sudbury are moving forward, despite concerns from some area residents who want to ensure the nearby Bennett Lake watershed is protected.

About 100 people turned up at Monday night's planning committee meeting to oppose the subdivision.

But after four hours of discussion, the planning committee approved Dalron's 15 single detached dwellings with a vote of 4-1.

Councillor André Rivest, who voted against the proposal, said the problems are far too familiar for the city with past development.

"Forty to 45 years ago, we probably didn't know any different. But as time progresses, we're getting a lot more aware of our situations and perhaps this area should not be a future living area. Perhaps it should be park land, " Rivest said.

The proposal will be presented at city council in two weeks.
