Elliot Lake's Walter Blight, 72, dies in Hwy 69 crash
Collision happened just south of the Killarney turn-off, closed road for about eight hours
Police have identified the 72-year-old Elliot Lake man who died early Thursday morning after his van crashed head-long into a transport truck on Highway 69, just south of the Killarney turnoff.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Walter George Blight's southbound Chevrolet van crossed the centre line and struck a 2014 Freightliner transport truck that was northbound on Highway 69, about 3 km south of Highway 637, Sudbury OPP report. The crash happened in the two-lane construction zone.
Blight was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the transport truck suffered minor injuries.
Highway 69 north and south bound lanes were closed in both directions for nine hours while the investigation of the collision was being conducted.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Sudbury OPP with the assistance of the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.
