Fatal Sudbury rooming house fire claims one
One person is dead following a fire on Elizabeth Street in Sudbury Wednesday afternoon.
A crew will attempt to retrieve the remains of the victim before demolitions begins, Sudbury Police Chief Frank Elsner said. But he noted a preliminary investigation of the building revealed the 20-unit rooming house is now unstable.
No further details are available about the victim's identity or a possible cause for the blaze.
Fire officials said the fire gutted the building and the Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called to Sudbury to help with the investigation.
Meanwhile, according to the local Red Cross,14 people who lived in the rooming house are now staying in a hotel.
The information about the fire was expected to be released at a press conference slated for 4 p.m.
