Sudbury police say it looks like a man who drove a snowmachine into a telephone pole on Monday evening was impaired by alcohol — as was the friend who picked him up to take him away from the scene.

Police said a witness called to report the crash on Dennie Street in Hanmer close to 8:30 p.m

According to that witness, the snowmachine hit the pole, and the driver called someone to pick him up.

Police followed the vehicle and pulled it over. Both the snowmachine driver, 43, and the truck driver, 38, were arrested for impaired driving.

According to a press release, the "acquaintance that picked up his friend from the scene ... was also arrested for Obstruct Police."

There were no injuries as a result of the crash.

Neither man has yet to appear in court to answer to the criminal charges.
