Sudbury police have arrested a 36-year-old man accused of murder following a call about intimate partner violence.

Shortly after 12:35 a.m. Wednesday morning, police were called to a home on Lorne Street. Officers were told that two family members had serious injuries after a violent altercation with the person's partner.

Police arrived on scene and found a 32-year-old woman outside of the home who had serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to hospital by paramedics.

Inside the home, police found a 63-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also found two children inside the residence who were not physically injured. No one else was inside.

Police say the suspect was found at 11:30 a.m. in a wooded area off Alder Street with injuries that appear to be self-inflicted. He was taken into custody without incident.

Police say due to the nature of his injuries, he was transported to the hospital for medical treatment, however he remains in police custody.

The suspect has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, forcible confinement, and choking.
