The province says an inquest will be held into the deaths of Jason Chenier and Jordan Fram.

The two men died while working underground at Vale's Stobie Mine in Sudbury in June 2011.

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act whenever there is a mining death.

Deputy Chief Coroner Dr. Reuven Jhirad says the inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

"It certainly informs the public the circumstances of these two individuals and how they died, the events surrounding their deaths," said Jhirad. "It ensures the public that no death is overlooked, that nothing is being hidden."

The inquest is expected to last 10 days. A jury may make recommendations, aimed at preventing similar deaths from occurring.

It will take place in Sudbury in April.
