The City of Greater Sudbury has announced that Shari Lichterman is its new chief administrative officer.

Lichterman replaces interim CAO Kevin Fowke, who has held the position since Ed Archer was dismissed in October.

She was most recently the city manager and chief administrative officer for the City of Mississauga and was previously vice-president of eastern operations for Canlan Sports.

In addition, she co-owned a consulting and management firm that worked across North America.

"On behalf of City Council, I am pleased to welcome Shari Lichterman as our new chief administrative officer, said Greater Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre in a news release issued Friday.

"We look forward to working together to continue building a strong, vibrant, and growing Greater Sudbury."

Lichterman was chosen from a pool of 88 applicants.

She assumes the role on March 19.

"I'm excited to join the team at the City of Greater Sudbury, and to join the community as a resident," Lichterman said in the news release.

"I look forward to working with council, staff and stakeholders to deliver great services and key initiatives that support the city's vision: to be a centre of excellence and opportunity and a vibrant community of communities living together."

Lefebvre announced on Oct. 22 that Archer was no longer employed by the city.

That announcement, issued during the supper hour, thanked Archer for his years of service and contributions and wished him well in his future endeavours.

But officials remained tight-lipped about the reason for his dismissal and would not say if he received severance.

According to Ontario's Sunshine List, Archer made $297,160 in 2023 plus taxable benefits of $11,136.
