Old Rock is planning on giving coffee to patrons of the Elgin Street Mission — but it has to crowd source some funding first.

Coffee shop co-owner Luc Roy said he needs to raise $5,000 to get one tonne of coffee for the shelter.

Roy said he's preparing a special, stronger mix for the mission because its patrons like to add a lot of cream.

"We're going to roast it when they need it. So it's going to be really fresh," he said.

"And then we're going to grind it as needed. So we hope that their experience will brighten up their day."

Giving Mission clients a "good cup of coffee" is important to Roy, who co-owns Old Rock with his wife, Carole.

"It doesn't matter who you are. We have all kinds of patrons, and it just gives us a lot of joy when we see people enjoying a good cup of coffee."

Donations can be made via Old Rock's website.

The coffee shop is also raising money to have a new mural painted on the side of its building.
