OPP divers find body in Mississagi Park lake
Ontario Provincial Police say its underwater search and recovery divers have found a body in Semiwite Lake at the Mississagi Provincial Park, on Monday.
The condition of the body indicated it had been under water for a lengthy period of time, police noted in a press release. They said forensic identification will be conducted of the remains found and said investigators will continue efforts to identify the deceased.
On Friday, two anglers made the grisly discovery of a human foot floating in the lake, located 22 kilometres north of Elliot Lake, police said.
"They saw something floating in the water about 20 feet from shore," said Rob Matthews, a detective inspector with the OPP.
"They went over to investigate and they discovered what looked like a shoe and, when they look at it a little closer, they thought they saw a foot inside."
Forensic pathology tests later confirmed the foot was indeed human.
