Sudbury bus terminal relocation pitch riles some CBC listeners

Bad weather worries and wasteful spending on the list of reasons to leave the transit hub alone

Not everyone is on board with a recent idea to scrap Sudbury's downtown bus terminal to make way for new development.

Sudbury's downtown association argues the property is not being used to its full potential at this point. The groups wonders if the city should reconsider the location and format of the transit hub, and possibly move or dismantle it while investing more in the bus system across the city.

But, some CBC Sudbury listeners offered these counterpoints to the proposal — with only one caller in agreement that a new transit terminal would be best.

"It was built because we live in northern Ontario — we have days when it's minus 40."

"I don't understand why you would decommission or destroy a perfectly good building ... what a waste."

"Get rid of the LCBO ... leave everything else as it is."

"They had talked about relocating the terminal to around the Ledo [hotel] area ... I'm all for that idea."
