Sudbury church offers lunch break with God

A church in downtown Sudbury has started offering shorter services for people over the lunch hour.

The Anglican Church of the Epiphany hopes to attract busy office workers who don't live downtown and wouldn't normally attend a weekend service.

Father Tim Perry leads the new lunch service.

"We have been asking ourselves for a while, what does it mean to be a church in the downtown?" he said. "People right away go to issues of poverty and justice, and we do address those, but there is also the people who work down here who are not here on the weekends."

The Anglican Church of the Epiphany is offering shorter services for people to attend over the lunch hour on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Father Tim Perry was in our studio to talk about this new lunchtime spiritual offering.

MJ Gordon is a member of the church. She said the service helped her feel refreshed in the middle of her workday.

"It's kind of like the 20 minute workout. You don't have to run a marathon every day to be physically fit," she said. "But to keep encouraged in your faith and growing as a human being, little spots of time are important."

The shorter services are available on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. They're open to anyone in the community.
