Sudbury health unit to offer inspection website for pools, spas, tattoo shops

If you've been wondering about the safety of your favourite pool, spa or tattoo parlour, the health unit is designing a way to check online.

The Sudbury and District Public Health Unit is developing a system similar to the one already available for restaurant inspections.

The owner of Skin Illusions Tattoo Shop supports the idea.

"The public [is] made aware of what may be certain infractions at that shop a few times," said Mike Lagrandeur.

"If it's a re-occuring thing, then people get to judge for themselves whether they want to even go to that shop."

During health unit inspections, tattoo artists "actually prepare like we are going to do a tattoo and we have to walk them through it, step-for-step," Lagrandeur said.

"Usually they check the expiration dates on the needles and the expiration on the inks."

While work is being done on the website, people can call the health unit to check the health inspection results of various establishments.
