Sudbury hires realtor to sell 3 properties with unpaid taxes
Greater Sudbury has hired a real estate agent in the hope of selling three properties that have millions of dollars of unpaid property taxes.
The three properties, listed as great locations for industrial or commercial businesses, are located on Fielding Road in Lively and are being sold “as is” for a total of $2.368 million.
The companies that owned the land owe nearly $3 million in unpaid property taxes dating back to the 1990s.
The city has tried three times to sell them through tax sales to recover some of the lost revenue. But there were no bidders, likely in part because of suspected industrial contamination on the sites.
Recently when another contaminated property with unpaid back taxes, the old Kingsway Hotel, received no offers, the city seized control of it, demolished the building, cleaned up the soil and is now currently trying to sell the vacant lot for $525,000.
A staff report on these Fielding Road properties is expected to be presented to Sudbury city council next month.
