Lisa Ludwig has found a reason to like May again.

The 17-year-old St. Charles College student found out this month that she is the winner of this year's Jim Fielding Memorial Bursary at Laurentian University, worth $60,000 over the next four years.

This good news comes after a life of overcoming challenges, including a fractured family life, illness and the deaths of those close to her. Much of that bad news, coming in the month of May.

Ludwig told her story to Morning North host Markus Schwabe.

17-year-old Lisa Ludwig hated the month of May. It was often when tragedy struck in her in life. Now, she has one reason not to hate it: she just won a huge scholarship.
