Sudbury Wolves losing streak, low attendance 'disheartening'
'We're just trying to rebound and have a stronger remainder of the season,' says head coach
Fans of the Sudbury Wolves are feeling discouraged by a painful losing streak and the lowest attendance in decades.
This season, less than 3,000 people showed up to each game played by Sudbury's Ontario Hockey League team. That's down by nearly 1,000 tickets from last year, and one of the lowest turnout rates in the league.
Die-hard fan Tim Haapanaki said he'll continue to show up and cheer for his team, but the Wolves' current 15-game losing streak has been hard to watch.
"Being an optimist of course, you always thinks things are going to get better — we're rebuilding. But I talk to a lot of people and they say, 'We've been rebuilding for 35 years.'"
"Recently we haven't even been making the playoffs so it is a little bit disheartening."
Wolves hope to rebound
Despite the "difficult" start to the season, head coach Dave Matsos said he's hopeful that the team can turn things around, and that fans will return to the stands.
"We're confident that there are many games in there we could have won in that stretch," he said.
"We're just trying to rebound and have a stronger remainder of the season."
Many fans are still showing up to the rink, said Matsos. He said the team's appreciates that support.
The Subury Wolves hope to turn their bad luck around Friday night, when they face off against the London Knights on home ice.
